Reading Text
Charlie the chipmunk was a cheery little creature who lived in a cozy nest near an old garden shed. Every morning, he would search the fresh green bushes for sweet cherries and crunchy seeds to stuff into his chubby cheeks. One sunny Tuesday, Charlie scurried up a low oak branch, eager to check his favorite stash. Suddenly, he froze. A mysterious stranger was sitting right in his favorite patch of shade! The intruder had a shiny, shimmering coat and sharp dark eyes. Charlie bristled with anger. "Hey!" he chattered loudly, puffing out his furry chest. "This is my branch!" To Charlie’s shock, the shadowy creature chattered right back without making a sound. It puffed out its chest, flared its whiskers, and shook its bushy tail in defiance. Charlie took a bold step forward to challenge the rival. The stranger stepped forward, too! It matched Charlie’s fiery gaze, ready for a clash. Determined to show who was chief of this tree, Charlie let out a loud chirp and launched himself through the air. He crashed straight into something hard and smooth with a loud thwack! Charlie tumbled down into the soft clover, shaking his head in confusion. He rubbed his sore chin and crept back up to inspect the threat. Standing against the tree trunk was not a sneaky enemy at all, but a shiny, polished mirror left behind near the garden shed. Charlie stared at the smooth glass as the shimmering chipmunk stared back. Slowly, Charlie raised one paw to touch his cheek. The shiny creature touched its cheek, too. Chuckling at his silly mistake, Charlie let out a relieved sigh. He didn't have a fierce rival after all—just a very handsome reflection to share his morning cherries with!
