Asthma is a sickness that affects the lungs and can be very dangerous. Lots of people around the world have it, and it causes a lot of deaths each year. Things that can cause asthma attacks are called triggers. Some examples of triggers are smoke from cigarettes, pollen, dust, perfumes, exercise, cold weather, stress, and even getting a cold. When someone has an asthma attack, they might have trouble breathing, coughing, wheezing, or feel like their chest is tight. To help with asthma, people use inhalers. Inhalers are small devices that give medicine to help open up the airways in the lungs. There are two kinds of inhalers: relief inhalers that help right away, and preventive inhalers that help over time.
